In Iowa and nationwide, infant formula is in short supply. The Iowa Departments of Public Health and Human Services (HHS) have created this information to help parents trying to find infant formula.
WIC Program Goals and Objectives
USDA gives state WIC agencies a lot of freedom when it comes to developing goals and objectives for the WIC program, the only requirement is that we have a goal around breastfeeding. The State of Iowa WIC program has developed three goals and objectives for fiscal year 2023. They are posted below for review by the public. If you would like to make comments on them please send them to wic@idph.iowa.gov.
COVID-19 Vaccines and Children
The COVID-19 vaccine is the best way to keep our children safe. The long-term effects of a pediatric COVID case can be serious and last months. The most common side-effect of the COVID vaccine, which provides lasting protection, is a sore arm. The best way to protect children against COVID-19 is to get them vaccinated. Like other pediatric vaccines, the COVID-19 vaccine was thoroughly tested on children before being recommended. Parents with questions should talk to a pediatrician, school nurse, or another trusted healthcare provider about their child and the COVID-19 vaccine. Finding a vaccine is easy and getting vaccinated is free. Parents will be able to find available vaccines at vaccines.gov or by contacting their health care provider or local pharmacy.

With the Continuing Resolution that passed on December 2, 2021, the WIC Cash Value Benefit (CVB) for fruits and vegetables will continue to be elevated between January 1, 2022 - March 31, 2022 for each eligible woman and child over one-year of age participating in WIC. WIC has been helping families by providing healthy foods, nutrition education, and referrals to other health care agencies since 1974.

WIC Families
WIC families include infants and children up to 5 years old and women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have had a baby in the last 6 months. Fathers, stepparents, grandparents and foster parents may all apply for their children.

WIC Agencies
WIC agencies provide services locally to the WIC families including nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support, nutritious food packages, and referrals to other health programs.
