Antibiotic Resistance Resources for Schools and School Athletics

The following documents are designed to help prevent and stop or reduce the spread of Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) skin infections in middle and high schools. It contains materials targeted to the school health team, athletic directors/coaches, custodians, athletes/students and parents.

The "Iowa Gets Smart-Know When Antibiotics Work" curriculum was developed for school nurses. The materials target parents of school-aged children 14 and younger, with the intent of improving their knowledge on appropriate antibiotic use. These materials increase awareness among parents that antibiotics are ineffective in the treatment of most ear infections, colds, influenza and other viral illnesses.
