Advisory Council on Brain Injuries

Members of the Advisory Council on Brain Injuries (ACBI) are appointed annually by the Governor of Iowa.  Appointed members are typically appointed to serve two-year terms, beginning in July.  The council is made up of members who are survivors of brain injury, family members of individuals who have experienced a brain injury, and/or professionals working in a field related to brain injury services.  In addition to appointed members, representation from various state agencies also comprise the council as non-voting members.

Quarterly Meetings

The Advisory Council on Brain Injuries meets quarterly, typically in January, April, July, and October on the third Friday of the month from 10am until approximately 3pm.  Meetings are open to the public and the agenda outlining the meeting topics, time and location are posted below along with other meeting materials.

As a courtesy, a conference line will be used to allow individuals to participate in the meetings remotely.

Meeting location, dates and times, along with meeting agendas, minutes and reports, can be found by visiting the Meeting Information page by clicking the tab on the left side of this page.

Individuals who wish to attend the meeting but require reasonable accommodations to do so should contact the BI program manager of their specific needs at least 3 days prior to the meeting by calling 515-281-8465 or emailing brain.injury@idph.iowa.gov.

Task Force meetings

The Advisory Council on Brain Injuries has two standing task force committees: (1) the Executive Task Force and (2) the State Plan Task Force.  The chairperson of the council may create additional task forces as needed.  Currently, the ACBI has three task forces that align with the priority areas of the state plan: Individual and family service access, service system enhancements, and prevention of brain injury.

Membership on task force is open to any interested individual and is not restricted to just members of the council.  Similar to the quarterly meetings, task force meetings are open to the public.  For these meetings, teleconference or videoconference may be utilized due to the brevity of the meeting and distance members would need to travel to attend.

Individuals who are interested in serving on a task force should contact council staff at 515-281-8465 or brain.injury@idph.iowa.gov

All scheduled meetings of task force committees are listed on the Meeting Information page.

State Plan for Brain Injury

The Advisory Council on Brain Injuries routinely produces a state plan which serves as guidance for brain injury services and prevention for Iowa.
