Volunteer Health Care Provider Program (VHCPP)

The Volunteer Health Care Provider Program (VHCPP) strives to increase volunteerism by competent health care professionals by offering protection to eligible volunteer health care providers and eligible clinics providing free health care services.

An individual volunteer health care provider holding a current VHCPP agreement with the Volunteer Health Care Provider Program (VHCPP) shall be afforded the protection of an employee of the state under Iowa Code chapter 669.

A protected clinic holding a current protection agreement with the VHCPP shall be afforded protection as an agency of the state under Iowa Code chapter 669.

In the event of a claim seeking damages, defense will be provided by the Iowa Department of Justice at no cost.

Indemnification will be provided to the full extent of any judgment brought against the individual volunteer health care provider or protected clinic, provided each of the conditions of the agreement is satisfied.

How Do I Locate a VHCPP Free Clinic?

The list indicates links to the clinic web pages that identify clinic locations, hours, and days the individual volunteer healthcare provider may volunteer. The individual volunteer health care provider must have a signed agreement with the Department prior to providing services. Free health care for individuals otherwise unable to pay for services is available at the locations identified on the Volunteer Health Care Provider Program clinic list.
