Prediabetes and Diabetes Prevention

Prediabetes is a diagnosable condition, where your blood sugar level is higher than normal but not high enough yet to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. About 1 in 3 adults in the U.S. have prediabetes. About 8 out of 10 people with prediabetes do not know they have it. In Iowa, it is estimated that approximately 35% of the adult population has prediabetes and 84 million people across the country.

Fortunately, people with prediabetes can take steps to prevent type 2 diabetes. The National Diabetes Prevention Program is a proven lifestyle change program that can help prevent or delay getting type 2 diabetes. (Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
