Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention & Management

The Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention and Management supports the development and implementation of programs and services that help Iowans prevent and manage chronic disease. Programs within this bureau focus on preventing and managing specific chronic conditions and diseases including cancer, pre-diabetes and diabetes, heart disease, and Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias.

The bureau, along with its partners and contractors, works to reduce the burden and impact of chronic disease by:

  • Increasing access to educational programming and screening and diagnostic services throughout the state;
  • Increasing awareness about reducing chronic disease-related risks, and preventing, detecting and managing chronic disease;
  • Supporting behavior change and lifestyle improvements through referral to available community-based programming; and
  • Supporting development and implementation of policy and systems changes that improve health care delivery.
